How to Get More From Your Colouring-in Department (aka Marketing)

How to Get More From Your Colouring-in Department (aka Marketing) I recently had dinner with a recruitment leader (anonymous) and we were talking about her goals for 2016. Profit, Effectiveness, ROI, CRM Upgrade, Marketing… Or rather she said: “I want to get more ROI from my colouring in department!” Translation â€" ROI from her Marketing department. Marketing and Sales are Disconnected I do often come across Marketing departments who are disconnected from Sales â€" disconnected enough to warrant a (healthy) scepticism.   This is often demonstrated by graphs showing community sizes rather than fees generated from marketing activities. Why? I often find that this is due to a complete lack of understanding (by Sales) of what Marketing is there for. Marketing are often not expected to generate leads, and if they do, Sales sometimes don’t stop cold calling long enough to convert them, or feedback to Marketing on improving the lead criteria. Who cares about your community? I want money! We all know Greg Savage. We even had a webinar dedicated to (our invented) Greg Savage day.   He has numerous sound bites, one of which is so pertinent to this: “Those of you getting your staff to compete over cold calls are competing over who can piss off the most prospects…  Cold calls? Warm calls are better.” Now warm calls are not generated by radiators or working in hot climates â€" they are generated by marketing (delivered by Sales and Marketing). Marketing is all about being in the peripheral vision of your talent and clients â€" content, events, great job adverts… Marketing should rule lead generation â€" not simply colour it in! If you agree with Greg (as my clients do) that 2016 is about recruiters being more focused marketers, and you agree with me… “If you’re a marketer it’s about recruiters… if you’re a recruiter it’s about marketing.” Then you need to either radically change your perception of your colouring in department, or hire a new more sales-focussed one. It’s all about ROI! 5 things you can do to get your Marketing Department to put their Crayons down: Tell them who your target clients are â€" seriously, they’ll love knowing and they’ll get super giddy when they see these clients surfing your website and engaging with their content. Give them a budget to generate leads. Even as an IT Director in my younger days, my Commercial Director said “I’ll give you £1 as long as you make me £2!” Put down the cold call and demand a list of warm calls. Stop jumping out of your cave with your club looking for the Woolly Mammoth and start looking to be stroked. Are you so busy chasing that you can’t see who’s looking at you? Get a lead from your marketing department and it’s not worth your time? Feedback and demand better (nicely). ROI is about Perception and Expectation Recruitment marketers need to “get” Sales, generate leads, demonstrate value and get into the thick of growing a business. Recruiters need to “get” that Marketing (with a big and small m) is intrinsically part of the sales process, not simply a pretty logo, website, LinkedIn Recruiter Licence sign off, etc… And when Marketing generates super leads for you, convert them into sales please, then tell Marketing how much money they have helped you take home that month, say thanks, and don’t be surprised if they log that somewhere and remind you of it regularly. Love your Marketer, recruiters!

Why Recruiters Shouldnt Ignore Working Parents

Why Recruiters Shouldnt Ignore Working Parents The benefits of employing working parents in recruitment are vast and as a working parent myself I want to pass on what these are for employers to encourage more to think flexibly, as well as some helpful tips to those who are returning to work after children or about to go off on maternity and paternity leave. In addition, I believe by employing working parents, there are inherent benefits for other team members who aren’t parents themselves as it creates a very different culture, which I will explore further. As a sector, the recruitment market was slower than some to adapt to the concept of flexible working. I know myself, when I had my first child in 2004, the concept of working around my daughter was alien: I couldnt always be honest about the fact I wasnt available after a certain time of day and I would often get very stressed trying to fulfil my obligations to clients whilst simultaneously trying to be the perfect mum to my infant daughter. The historically “normal” long hours that are typical of working in recruitment are not symbiotic with raising a family and I believe that over the last decade this has been challenged by the working parents who have HAD to come back to work and also those, like myself, who have encouraged employers to think about the benefits of hiring working parents in their companies. So what are the main benefits to employers when recruiting working parents into their staff? Multiply your potential employee pool You are increasing your chances of hiring a significant part of the working population who contribute a huge percentage of revenue. As a working mum, I have been the main breadwinner within my family for a number of years; it would appear that I am not the rarity either. Working parents NEED to earn money Nursery and childcare costs a fortune with some commenting this cost can sometimes be a quarter of their gross earnings. Recruitment as a sector is highly lucrative and therefore, hiring a working parent who has to earn X to cover basic costs means you are hiring a very loyal, committed and tenacious individual. And with a third of families have full-time working parents, this in itself demonstrates that this group of people should not be ignored! Social media guru As a mum to two millennial kids (12 and 9), who are constantly on Musical.ly, Snapchat and Instagram (who knows what the next big thing will be?) I know that I have learned more about social media from observing these two than anyone I have asked about of my age. So by hiring a working parent with older kids, you are potentially going to buy in additional skills. Equally, as a parent, your ability to manage tasks, time manage priorities becomes a second nature that I genuinely think those without children surely must not compare to? I can only speak from my personal experience with that remark but I can honestly say that I am a lot more efficient, constructive and tenacious now as a parent than I ever was before hand. Put bluntly, I dont have time to waste and I think a majority of working parents would agree. Non parents should benefit too There is no intention to alienate or insult anyone reading this who is NOT a parent that there is an insinuation you are not hard-working or efficient. Far from it. But I do think that knowing you have 9:30-4:30 to get through the work day instead of 8-6 for example means you power through those 7 hours and dont get distracted by things that otherwise you may have done. I have provided a link for you here as I think there is no reason why employers who are happy to diverse their working culture to offer flexible working for ALL employees, not just working parents, in line with this advice. Advice For anyone reading this who is unsure of their working rights as parents or those employing, this is a useful link for you.

Im Worried About a Belief in Manifesting. Here Are the Reasons Why. Marla Gottschalk

I’m Worried About a Belief in Manifesting. Here Are the Reasons Why. Marla Gottschalk Strategies that may help us move forward can be worth their weight in gold. However rest assured, I’ll put that strategy through its paces before I apply it to my own life. Ive often wondered about manifesting and the LOA (Law of Attraction). But, to tell the truth â€" not enough to take up its practice. I thought I would finally jot down my thoughts concerning why this is the case. We should always take a closer look at the advice we are offered. You should break things down and explore how the steps might really work. Where manifesting is concerned, it starts off on the right foot â€" but then veers off in a worrisome direction. It is easy to understand its allure. (In a sea of self-care trends it does appear to embrace positivity.) But, while it purports to offer help when life or work become challenging â€" it falls woefully short in the efficacy department. That is a serious problem. Here are my specific concerns with the idea manifesting. You may or may not agree with my reasoning. (You can read more on the topic here.) Problem #1. For an idea to hold water, “the proof” so to speak, “lies in the pudding.” To improve our lives I believe that “doing” â€" actual behavioral change â€" is necessary. Indeed, thoughts are the starting point of change. Yet, thoughts are never the complete story when we desire progress. We cannot simply wish for things to develop. We have to act. Without a behavioral plan of action, false hope can follow. We must act to change our lives. Only our behaviors can truly accomplish this. Problem #2. Let’s consider the underlying premise of manifesting. When our thoughts are unleashed into the universe, they somehow create more of the same energy. Logically, this leads me to ask questions such as: “Will my negative thoughts concerning my difficult client, bring more of the same toward me?” or “Did a new client prospect ghost me because my vibrational energy was low and broadcasted my concerns?” Essentially, this line of reasoning implies that whatever you put out there thought-wise, the universe magically (and inexplicably) slaps it back into your face. That shifts the power away from us. Manifesting shifts power into the great unknown. It professes to offer control, but actually hands off that control to an entity outside of ourselves. Problem #3. Let’s consider, what all of this implies about emotions that are not positive. Are we also saying that negative feelings are worthless? That they should be stomped out and ignored? I hold the firm belief that all emotions tell us something vital. That our nagging “inner-speak” is alerting us to the work that needs to be done â€" and this work might bring our work lives into alignment. We can acknowledge what is wrong, yet challenge its impact upon our future. Weighing in on the side of manifesting, I do know that hope matters. Hope leads us to try again and again, to reach for the goals that matter to us. However, while we might fulfill the much needed “hope criterion” with manifesting, we must also take things one step further and build self-efficacy through deliberate action. That builds confidence. Which hopefully leads us to act in a way that supports our goals. Manifest that. Dr. Marla Gottschalk is an Industrial/Organizational Psychologist. Secure Your Study Style Understanding Your Learning Technique - CareerMetis.com

Secure Your Study Style Understanding Your Learning Technique Regardless of whatever part of the career ladder you are on, you need to make sure that you put in the hours to get what you want out of your career. In your life, having your dream career is, in some ways having control over your dreams. While it is incredibly daunting to have many hours of cramming and stressful exams, the history of the twentieth-century school system doesn’t show how, we as humans, learn. In actual fact, we all learn in different ways. The problem with the 20th-century school learning format, in other words, drumming into your brain the subjects in order to prepare for one last exam that measures what you learned throughout your whole school life doesn’t seem incredibly applicable nowadays.evalHowever, as this is the way life is, we may as well buckle up and get on with it, or should we?Instead, if you learn how you study the best, it will take a lot of pain and frustration out of the endless late night cram sessions. So here’s an overview of different learni ng styles.Photo Credit â€" Pixabay.comWhile many people do realize that we all have different preferences regarding learning styles or techniques, the basic learning styles can be a combination of each different style, and your style is not fixed. However you may find that you have a dominant style of learning, and this is something that is a relatively new approach. In fact, this is one that educators only started to recognize in recent years. As the standard schooling methods rely on logical or linguistic teaching methods, this is a very limited approach, so by understanding your own learning styles, you can improve on how you study.Visual style: Using pictures, images or spatial understanding.Aural style: This relates to sound or music.Verbal style: Relating to using words, whether in speech or in writing.evalPhysical style: You prefer to use body, hands, or sense of touch.Logical style: Essentially mathematical, so you prefer to use logic, reasoning or systems.Social style: Prefe rring to learn in a group or with other people.Solitary style: Preferring to work alone.evalApplying this to real study scenarios, cfa study materials, for example, uses different learning techniques which encourage you to do the work alone and in groups. It also uses a more interactive method, such as video.Photo Credit â€" Publicdomainpictures.netThe final point I’ll make with regards to online learning materials is that with the advent of technology becoming more sophisticated, it is now starting to adapt and learn independently without you telling the system what to do. Courses such as the CFA courses learns how you learn and alters the study plan accordingly. All in all, understanding how you learn is one way to get ahead of the pack, and sometimes all it takes is to understand your own individual learning style, and you will have cracked it open! You’ll be able to understand things you would never dream of before! So try it take a test to find out what your learning style is , and start to take control of your studying.
